Booktalk: James Marshall found gold in the American River and people came from all over the world to find some, too. They had gold fever!
Snippet:
“Putting one of the pieces on hard river stone, I took another and commenced hammering it. It was soft and it didn’t break,” Marshall said.
To Marshall, soft, shiny stones meant only one thing. Quickly searcing out his workers, he exclaimed, “Boys, I believe I found a gold mine!”
